Koholā Gallery was founded to showcase artwork that speaks to emotion. Visitors will find an exceptional display of Maui and other Hawaiian landscapes including sunsets, sandy beaches, bamboo forest, and the tropical forests along the road to Hana. The underwater world is also represented at Koholā, with stunning portraits of dolphins, turtles, coral reefs, and whales. Paintings and glass by well-known local artists as well as stunning and imaginative sculpture complement the space.
The Maui-based company is a partnership between Douglas J Hoffman, Christopher G Alliston and Bryan H Blauvelt.
Douglas is well known for fine art photographs of Humpback whales and has received numerous awards. He has over 12,000 hours of experience in the water. His favorite destinations include Tonga for Humpback Whales, Indonesia for tropical reefs, rich bio-diversity, & whale sharks, and Fiji for colorful soft corals, thriving reefs, and sharks. In January of 2012, he received the prestigious Master of Photography Degree from the Professional Photographers of America.
Christopher G. Alliston began his diving career in 1985. In 1990 he started capturing his dive adventures from around the globe on video. In late 2014, Chris began to transition into still photography and by early 2017, he dedicated his explorations both underwater and above to still photography. Today he dedicates his time towards still photography, as well as, ocean conservation, preservation and promotes the world wide ban on single use plastics.
Bryan's love for the ocean was sparked when he started diving as a 12 year-old kid in 1991, visiting the island of Kauai. Over the past 25 years he has explored six of the eight Hawaiian islands both underwater and topside, as well as the Maldives, Red Sea, Palau, Mexico, Belize and various other islands across the Caribbean. Bryan's passion for photography and videography traces back to high school, where he learned to edit video on an analog editing deck, and was taught how to visualize and then create an image on black and white film, process and print it by hand. Today Bryan's love for the ocean and great images hasn't changed, while the tools of the trade certainly have.
